Whose Side Are You On?
I waited until the Halloween was over this year to write this note… and here’s why I did.
There seems to always be a heated discussion this time of year when it comes to Christians and the celebration of Halloween. I’ve heard some great arguments coming from both sides. Both sides vehemently burning with passion from their chosen stance on the issue. The good news is, both sides are right… AND both sides are wrong. And to me, that’s hilarious… and scary.
I realized a simple truth in all of this, and I’d really like to share it.
As Christians, we are called to be ambassadors of Heaven. To me, that means introducing people to Heaven. It means partnering with God to bring Heaven to earth. It means courageously loving and connecting with people in a way that transforms people. It’s like literally loving the ‘hell’ out of people.
We are NOT called to judge, accuse, and condemn people to hell out of our own fears and pride. That would be an example of being an ambassador to hell. That’s not our job… and the last time I checked, pride was what got a certain someone kicked out of heaven in the first place.
That also means an ambassador to hell is celebrating the holiday much more pridefully than the 4 year old dressed up as a Spongebob Squarepants.
